Simple Detention
This tutorial is a step by step training document to design a simple detention pond. This example will define two drainage areas, one control structure, one storage structure, and one RLPNode.
Step1: Defining Drainage Areas
The first step is to start the program and select File/New. This presents our standard disclaimer reminding users that they are ultimately responsible for ensuring that the output makes sense.
The default screen then appears.
The first step is to enter the project precip. This is accomplished by right clicking in the Data Menu and selecting Config.
Enter the data shown and press to OK button.
Once the design events are defined, we can proceed to describe the predeveloped and post developed drainage areas. Expose the PROTOTYPE record under the Basins category in the Treeview and double click on it. When the prototype record appears, immediately press the
New Basin
button.
A dialog box will immediately appear with the next autolabel defined. If the label is satisfactory, press OK. Otherwise change the label to a custom label for the record. In this case we will leave it.
Press the OK button
The program automatically generates a new record USING the PROTOTYPE record as a template. It is not necessary to use the PROTOTYPE record as a template, any drainage area will do. This feature aids in minimizing data input when several drainage areas have similar characteristics.
Select 10 yr as the design event and TYPE2 as the rainfall type. We will use SBUH and SCS CN numbers in this tutorial.
This tutorial will keep it simple. We will only use the pervious CN and TC calculators. Click on the Perv CN tab to expose the Pervious CN calculator. Click on the sheet flow row. Doing so will move the data to the fields at the top of the form. You can edit them by changing the area to 5 ac. Press the Update button when finished.
We are not going to use the Impervious CN calculator so if there are values in it that are left over from the PROTOTYPE record, clear them out.
Select the IMPERV CN tab and press the Clear buttons.
