Secondary Installation files
StormShed3G installation is a multi-step process. It involves installation of the core software
components in addition to a secondary download of localized rainfall distribution files.
The secondary download is necessary only if you have used earlier versions of StormShed
and/or require rainfall distribution files unique to your locale.. The secondary download consists of a
zip file that defaults to c:\Program Files\StormShed3GLocal. The download
is about 600KB and should be done once for the organization. Click on the
following image to begin downloading the support files.
The contents should be placed in a location that is readily accessible to all StormShed3G
users in your organization. If you are the only user, then the default location is probably
acceptable, however, if there are multiple StormShed3G users in your organization, then
a network server location would be the preferred location. Installation in a network accessible
location means that the secondary installation is required only once for the entire organization! Note that the files can be extracted to a temporary
location now and then manually moved using Windows Explorer at a more convenient
time! Obviously, you will want to have the files in their permanent
location before proceeding with the last part of this instruction sheet.
StormShed3G installation
StormShed3G™ is installed using Microsoft's Click Once technology. What this
means is that it is installed automatically on your machine and all upgrades are
automatic. Where the program is installed is NOT selectable by the user.
If we make an upgrade available by posting to our site, the next time you
start StormShed3G, a dialog will appear giving you the option of installing the
upgrade. This ensures that you will always run the most current version of the program.
Of course, there is always the option of reverting back to a previously installed
version! Reverting to a previous version is as simple as going to
the ADD/REMOVE dialog box from Windows Control panel and following the uninstall
directions.
In order to take advantage of the Click Once technology, we needed to supplement
the installation with the secondary installation discussed above. Because StormShed3G™
uses Microsoft's latest technology, we are able to develop the entire application
and deploy it in a very small footprint. Automatic upgrades, combined with
a small application footprint enables us to decentralize the installations, meaning
each machine will have its own installation of the program. Because updates
are handled automatically, whenever a machine attempts to run the software, it will
be automatically brought up to date.
Once the secondary download has been installed within your organization, proceed

After StormShed3G is Installed
Regardless if the installation was for evaluation or an actual license, after installation
and the first time StormShed3G™ is started, select Data/Config
from the program menu, select the Application Links tab:
Click on the
button next to the "Location of Local RAC/IDF/TSS files" field
and select one of the sub-directories below where you installed
the secondary download files. It may not be necessary for you to actually
select one of the Local RAC/IDF/TSS files sub-directories because there might not
be any that interest you. Generally, StormShed3G™ ships with the standard rainfall
distribution files, TYPE1, 1A, 2 and TYPE3 rainfall distribution files. Through
out the country, local jurisdictions have developed their own rainfall distribution
files. This secondary download provides access to the ones that we have been
made aware of. Currently, we have the following rainfall distribution files
for, Eastern Washington, Huff Distribution, Illinois, Indiana, SeattleWA, Thurston
Cty WA, and Legacy files for users of earlier versions of StormShed. This
list might not be up to date, but the different rainfall groups are placed in separate
subdirectories.
The program is now ready to use.
